Contemporary Country House and Cottages

Project Value: £2.5m

Contemporary Country House

One of three individual homes being built a stunning rural site in Gloucestershire for a private client. The main house is a contemporary single storey dwelling built to sustainable standards by contractors Beam Construction, completed in Autumn 2009 with an approximate value of £1.5m.

The house has many sustainable credentials including being entirely heated by geothermals with solar thermal panels to assist in providing hot water and high levels of insulation. The construction features a high thermal mass to moderate temperatures, including a concrete roof deck and a “green” sedum roof.

Cottage 1

This is a modest two bedroom cottage that re-uses and extends a derelict stone building completed in 2009. The traditionally-constructed cottage was undertaken as a “self build” by the client with family members and incorporates geothermal and solar thermal technologies in line with the ethos for the whole site.

Cottage 2

Designed, but as yet not built, this house continues the theme of stylish eco-homes on this desirable site.

Malcom Sutton “This is a highly sustainable project with the houses being heated by geothermals. One house includes a very new technology – fuel reclamation cells that store heat until required. The houses also feature photovoltaics, solar heating and SUDS.”
