Avery Creates State of the
Art Care Complex Heath
Avery Architects has received final
consent on a £13m Birmingham-based
Care Complex which has proved quite
..... well, complex to resolve!
The process included detailed discussions
with many different parties - including
two public consultations.
The 97 independent-living apartments
offer extra-care accommodation together
with a village hall, which doubles
as activity rooms, well-being rooms,
a shop, hairdresser, quiet room/library,
cafeteria and dining room. |

New
Home for Heath Avery Architects
The team is vacating its two offices,
at 3 & 6 Bath Mews, for a larger,
open-plan environment just around the
corner. Westmoreland House on Bath Road
is also occupied by Winston’s
Wish and The Jelf Group and offers great
flexibility for current and future needs.
Heath Avery is launching a new branding,
with a dynamic new website, to coincide
with the move and position the practice
firmly in its focus sectors of Care,
Education, Specialist Residential and
Workspaces. "Despite
the doom and gloom in the building sector,
we have had a superb start to 2008 with
a strong order book for the year,"
said David Heath, founding director
of the practice. "We are actively
seeking additional talent, both architects
and technicians. Our new space will
provide the optimum working environment."
Heath Avery is also advertising for
a managing director to lead the company
through this growth phase, so the architects
can concentrate on delivery of the projects
and client care. |

Cotswold Care
- Launch of Eco-Centre
There was a touch of Hollywood glamour
in Minchinhampton recently as Heath
Avery's Charles Cox and Kevin Truss
turned out for the sod-cutting ceremony
at Cotswold Care Hospice. Bond girl
Fiona Fullerton was not to be outdone
however, and braved the showers to officially
launch the building of the new facility
which is due for completion in April
2008 at a cost of just over £2m
- thanks to lottery funding. HRH Prince
of Wales is a patron of Cotswold Care
and is a regular visitor to events at
the centre.
The 1200sq m building is a specially-designed
day centre where terminally ill patients
can enjoy a variety of therapies, treatments
and educational activities.
The highly sustainable design features
rainwater harvesting, solar-heated water,
high levels of insulation and the use
of recycled materials wherever possible.
Heath Avery Architects, who have extensive
experience in the care sector, are working
in conjunction with Speller Metcalfe
as main contractor. |

Heath
Avery Wins Civic Award for Eco House
Charles Cox, director at Heath
Avery Architects, was recently delighted
to collect a Cheltenham Civic Award
for the design of Southernwood for clients
Ben & Wendy Tuxworth.
Ben is Director of Communications at
Forum for the Future, the UK's leading
sustainable development organisation.
Formed by Jonathon Porritt, FFTF works
with the private and public sector to
drive forward the sustainable agenda.
The fact that a leading environmentalist
chose Heath Avery to design his home
is indeed testament to the firm's green
credentials. |

Richard Pate
School
Arts and Sciences Extension
Work has now started on constructing
this exciting new centre of excellence
for the Richard Pate prep school.
The conceptual design of the building
reflects the aspirations of the school
in providing the very best facility
for teaching arts, sciences and languages
within a clean, contemporary envelope,
which has its own visual identity. The
light and airy spaces created by the
wave form roof and curtain walling are
naturally ventilated, and have been
thermally modelled to ensure optimum
comfort conditions.
Work started on site in May 2006 and
completion of the project is expected
in November 2006, at an approximate
cost of £700,000. |
