Southernwood was a self-build by Ben & Wendy Tuxworth. Ben is Director of Communications with Forum for the Future, the environmental consulting organisation founded by the Government's eco-expert Jonathon Porritt.

The award-winning design, wraps living accommodation around a central circulation core which, lit from above, brings light into the interior. Views and sunlight to the daytime spaces are maximised by turning the accommodation upside down and placing bedrooms on the lower level. A traditional pitched roof creates space for a more private mezzanine with balconies overlooking the living spaces.
