Our Sustainability Policy

Reduce * Re-use *Recycle * Buy Responsibly

We have conducted an extensive audit into our sustainability as a company, what we could improve and what needs revolutionising! It is an on-going process but we are already finding some great additional benefits:- cost reduction and team spirit.

Here are some of the things we are doing and planning:

Heath Avery’s Sustainable Commitment

  • We recycle plastic, glass, cardboard, paper, ink cartridges and waste food is composted.
  • We use recycled/sustainably sourced paper for photocopying and stationery.
  • Our printers use vegetable-based dyes, chemical-free plates and alcohol-free presses.
  • We use environmentally~friendly cleaning and washroom products.
  • Lights use low energy bulbs and are switched off when not in use.
  • We have a respectable carbon footprint for transport and travel – half our staff walk or cycle to work.
  • We lift-share where feasible for meetings.
  • We constantly ask the question: do we need this or is there a more sustainable alternative?
  • We have significantly reduced our brochure and stationery print including production of business cards on a need basis.
  • We have purchsed an eco-dishwasher to achieve one daily load of crockery.
  • We ensure only necessary equipment is left on standby or onovernight.

Additionally

  • We advise clients on sustainability issues during the brief taking and throughout the project.
  • We specify sustainable products as first choice and where commercially sensible.
  • We ‘return to sender’ unwanted literature and magazines and ask to be removed from the mailing list.
  • We take part in on-line seminars (webinars) as part of our CPD to reduce travelling.

Action List

  • We will review our energy tariff regularly and aim for renewable energy.
  • Aim to review sharing and managing of electronic documentation to reduce printing.
  • Staff that regularly drive to work will be encouraged to use alternative means (including car-sharing) or at least consider the CO2 output of their next vehicle.
  • We will investigate home-working opportunities to reduce unnecessary travel for a percentage of the week;
  • Increase public transport use where appropriate.
  • We will use the air-conditioning only when necessary and provide blinds to reduce solar gain.
  • We will set up a sustainable appraisal system for suppliers.
  • We will achieve ISO 14001 in by spring 2009.
